STATUS: Full-time, season. April - November

The Oaks of Cobden is looking to hire a Mechanics Assistant for the 2025 season with the agreement/understanding of taking over the head mechanics position in 2026.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the guidance the Equipment Manager, the assistant Equipment Manager will be taught responsibility for maintaining and repairing all golf course vehicles and equipment, including gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered machinery. The scope of this role ensures operational efficiency and safety by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and overseeing equipment upgrades. An understanding of golf course operations and maintenance requirements is essential. You are required to be hard-working and eager to learn. You will be exposed to working with hydraulic, electrical systems, gas and diesel engines. You will be taught effective record-keeping and purchasing as required. Organizational skills are required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance & Repair
- In charge of maintenance, repair, and calibration of all equipment.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues, providing quick resolutions.
- Set and adjust mowers to ensure cutting quality.
- Overhaul and repair automotive and other powered equipment including, but not limited to engines, brakes, transmissions, hydraulics, differentials, springs, and mufflers; secure and replace tools and parts.
- Repair and maintenance of reel/rotary mowers
- Make recommendations to the Superintendent with respect to equipment maintenance and repair.
- Utilize local and industry suppliers.
- Take on additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent
- Maintain accurate records of equipment repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
- Monitor and manage inventory of parts and tools required for equipment maintenance.
- Manage the ordering/purchasing of parts and supplies from approved suppliers
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in golf course maintenance, diesel pump, sprayer and construction equipment.
- Maintain the shop in orderly condition, cleaning working areas after repairs are completed.
- Identify and address potential hazards to maintain a safe environment for staff and guests.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment by adhering to health and safety standards
- Adopt a positive and cooperative team environment through communication and leadership
Hours / Compensation
- Monday to Friday | 8-hr Morning Shifts

Qualifications
- Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in golf or small-engine repair setting including equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in managing teams and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant technical certifications (e.g., electrical, mechanical) preferred.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for equipment handling.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience in sharpening/grinding rotary mower blades.
- Knowledge of the game of golf is seen as an asset
